Although it’s obvious that an individual office should have at least one desk and one chair, the choice of furniture is the basis, and it must be functional. We don’t all love plants, but we all know their benefits. Having plants in the office has many advantages, from colour to air benefits. Besides, an environment with plants makes it more cosy and promotes creativity. The colours in an environment have a strong impact on how we feel. We should avoid an all-white, “colourless” office, but we should also be careful with the amount and variety of colour used. The ideal is to play with colour in certain parts of the space, such as furniture or even the walls. The choice of colour depends a lot on the feeling you want to transmit. Warmer colours, such as orange and red, are usually chosen to create more dynamic environments, as they bring out energy and creativity, while cooler colours, such as blue or grey, make the environment calmer and more sophisticated. The rule is not to overdo it!

The choice of lighting is one of the factors that most directly influences our productivity. Darker environments will send a false message to the brain that it’s time to rest and will lead to sleepiness and discouragement. However, too much artificial and white light will create a less cosy environment. The ideal is to find a balance between white and yellow light and favour, always, natural light!

Decorative elements such as rugs, pictures and objects will add harmony and beauty to the space, but they must be chosen carefully. The decoration must not be excessive and must match each other so as not to create visual noise. In the case of rugs, they will make the room more comfortable and are great for absorbing sound. 

Above all, in the corporate world, we should use the rule “less is more”! Whether we’re decorating our home office or a sharing office, we should favour a cohesive, pleasant environment with only what is necessary.
