Sustainability at work

When we think of sustainability we immediately think about things like the preservation of natural resources, but in fact it should be present in various aspects of our lives, including our workplace.

In a coworking space, this responsibility should come from all coworkers and there are small gestures that make all the difference! 👇

No disposable materials 🍽️

Some coworking spaces provide their coworkers with all the crockery they might need for their meals and a filtered water machina, such as Fusion. This avoids disposable coffee cups, plastic water bottles and other disposable trash that can be replaced. And you don’t have to worry about the “work” of washing up afterwards because we have a dishwasher that does it for us.

Reduce printouts 🧑‍💻

If it’s not so important that it’s printed, save it digitally! In the era we live in, where reading, sharing and storing documents is already so easy and common in digital form, there’s no need to spend large amounts of paper on “unnecessary” printing. If you really need to print, opt for more sustainable options, such as printing both sides, which reduces costs by 50%. Printouts that you no longer need can be reused for scratch paper, for example.

Less emails ☁️

Yes, the Internet isn’t free from carbon footprint either! We’re talking about a network with billions of machines, with billions of data, stored in data centres that require a lot of energy, both to operate the servers and to keep them cold. That’s why, for example, Facebook built its data centre in a country with a cold climate. As a result, an email of just one word can cost a lot more than we expected. In recent years, the exponential increase in data generated around the world has made these data centres responsible for almost 2% of greenhouse gas emissions, a percentage already close to that of the aviation industry.

✅ The choice of transport 🚲

For the environment, the means of transport we decide to use makes all the difference. If possible, sharing a car, using public transport or even walking or cycling are all choices that will contribute to a more sustainable routine. The pandemic, for example, has shown us that many business trips can be avoided and can be solved by a video call.

✅ Waste separation is mandatory ♻️

Recycling is already a well-known concept, but one that has fallen by the wayside. Whenever we have recycling bins at our disposal, we should use them and not just end up using the normal garbage can. Fusion is no exception! We offer this option and guarantee separation for as long as it is our responsibility.

✅ Switching off equipment and lights 📴

After a day’s work, switch off all the equipment and/or remove all the plugs from the sockets. Although energy consumption isn’t very high, it’s an unnecessary expense that we never think about it. In addition, of course, to the lights, which should always be switched off when not in use. Whenever possible, take the opportunity to work with natural light, not only benefits the environment but also your productivity.

Basically, if we all put these small but big changes into practice in our daily lives, the planet will thank us! 🌍🧡
